I have a abit kn8 and i am having a hard time getting it to
2.6 temp is no problem and i cant figure out how and the
hell you lower the motherboard speed. Lowered the ram
speed to 200mhz and at about 235 at 1.6 volts mulitplier at
9 it craps out.

Parts
amd 3000 venice core
2x512 Corsair value select(have used before in ocing)
BFG 7600gt
Cooler master 430 watt
Zalman 90mm fan
Wd 80gig hard

Best thing i can think of is that bios update and try to adjust the mobo
timings

I have the kn8 sli board and run my 146 opteron@ 10x270, 1.4v with a 333 divider with no problem. It will run at 2.9 with a small bump in vcore but it starts getting a bit warm. Anyway you can try a newer BIOS, but it may in fact be your cpu won't go that high.

I have a KN8 with the same problem as you. I have a Venice core 3000+ but when I saw the FX-55 for $140 at newegg it was a no brainer.

Now to wait for my new toy(FX-55) to arrive and sell the old chip.
