Abit KG7 Problems - At my wits end

I built a system with the KG7(non-RAID), and have had extreme problems right from the start. I get crashes with bsod's on a daily basis. I have seen 2 different messages. One I get usually when I'm downloading something is PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA. I also sometimes get KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED. These can also happen when the computer is sitting idle and no programs are running. Sometimes it points to these drivers possibly being at fault: ntfs.sys, setupdd.sys, and win32k.sys. But most of the time it list's no drivers.

I have tried everything from reinstalling windows, and upgrading all my drivers, to even moving my cards to different slots. No change. I have no idea what to do at this point, and am convinced this board has serious problems. I've played with my memory settings and BIOS settings. I will say that ACPI has several of my devices on IRQ 11, but that should not be a problem. If anyone, anyone at all has the slightest idea what to do here, I will buy that person the beer of their choice! (and be eternally grateful). Here's my system specs:

KG7(non-RAID)
Windows 2000 Professional SP2
Tbird 1.4
256MB Crucial DDR RAM
Gainward GeForce3
Soundblaster Live! MP3+ 5.1
Creative Encore DVD-RAM w/ Dxr3 Decoder board
60GB IBM Deskstar 75GXP
DLINK NIC
3Com NIC
Antec 350W PS

Thanks for the tip, I will definitely try and determine if it's the hd, but I've had no clicking sounds or bad sectors yet. I'm hoping it's something else.

Have you tried using fail-safe defaults in the bios or adjusting DDR timings? Something else you might consider is disabling ACPI in win2000 pro, Disable ACPI in Win2K: Under Windows 2000 you can disable ACPI from within Windows as follows:
1. Go to Device Manager and select Computer -> Properties of ACPI PC
2. Click the driver Tab and choose Update Driver
3. When the wizard gets to the "What do you want the wizard to do?" page, select "Display a list of the known drivers..."
4. Then "Show all hardware of this device class"
5. Then select "Standard PC"
6. Reboot the machine, enter Bios immediately and disable ACPI
7. When Windows 2000 restarts it'll redetect most of the hardware in your machine again and reassign IRQ's to them, turning off ACPI.
8. After rebooting, check under Device manager for double entries of Standard Computer. If you see 2 entries, check which one has no driver installed for it by checking under the driver tab for Standard Computer and delete that one and reboot.
So, you don't really need to reinstall the OS with Win 2K. I recommend a reinstall though. I guess it's all about how much of a perfectionist you are. I have seen some cases where you can just uninstall ACPI from 2K *without* disabling it in the bios. I've done it before, but if I had an error or problem, I wasn't sure if it came from not disabling it in the bios too or not. I mean the OS seems to run fine for some, gets all screwed up for others. I guess one can try it before resorting to flashing the bios. That's with Win 2K only though.
