Abit KG7 memory problem

I have an Abit KG7, 512mb DDR ram, Plextor burner (SCSI),Windows ME. Fresh install, using several different burn software from an image and I get failures or buffer overruns. The system memory is about nil after a clean boot with startup list disabled. Does anyone know what might be causing this? Thinking this was a resource problem I turned everything of and even with a clean boot most all of the 512mb system memory is being used. My swap file is default (managed by windows) and I didn't have this problem before with my Abit BX-133 with the same drives.
