I bought Abit KG7 as a replacement for my newly bought DOA Epox 8KHA from newegg. Now I have doubt about my decision to go with KG7, is it a mistake? Should i bought mobo with KT266a chipset instead? I'm willing to spend extra $$ for KR7 or less $$ for Epox, help me please.

If you don't want your KG7 send it to me!! You made a fine choice. I bought a KT133 just before the KT133a's came out. You can drive yourself crazy if you try and keep up with technology constantly. I usually stay a generation behind in my components and let all the serious tweakers work out the bugs.

The Abit it a great motherboard, and the KT266A does not offer such a performance increase as everyone makes out. Both are great chipsets.

The performance difference is barely noticable outside of benchmarks, plus the AMD-761 chipset is tried & tested and as such is extremely stable. Not saying the KT266As are unstable, just saying they are brand new...

All the things I've heard about these boards were good. Thinking about trying one myself.

I still prefer the AMD761 solution over any of the others at the moment. Curious about nForce but would be more interested in platforms without any onboard stuff...

I don't think you can go wrong with the KG7 board, I hear it oc/higher than the KR7A board which I have.
Let us know how it does.
If you do photo editing, the KG7 AMD platform is much more stable than the Via chipset.

I still have a Abit BH6 with a P3 700 and a Asus CUSL2 with a P3 933 and I'm very happy with them. They are both very stable. For the apps that I run (Internet, e-mail, Workd, Excel, financial calculator, audio apps, etc) they are plenty fast. I have put a SCSI Cheetah X15 36LP on the CUSL2 just to play arround, and I cannot notice when the computer screen changes from one to another. Only thing I don't like about the scsi hard drive is the noise. Well, my computer is 2 feet away from my ear. Perhaps, in 2 or 3 more years, I 'll get a 4 or 5Gb chip and motherboard. For now I'm very happy with my p3 933 and my backup computer p3 700.

Abit KG7 kicks! This board, along with EPoX 8K7A/+ and GA-7DXR are some of the finest AMD760 boards. AMD760 will overclock extremely nicely since the north is by AMD itself. And this board has more dimms than 8K7A and 7DXR :) Plus, Abit did more tweaks than any other board maker, and so this board is not that short of KT266A speeds.

You made a good choice. Both the Abit KG7 and Epox 8K7A are known for running extremely high fsb speeds rock stable, plus the AMD 761 chipset is rock solid. The increased fsb speed will allow you to keep up or surpass the KT266A chipset.
