I thought I could help setup this system, but I was unable too, couple of damn things that just won't work.

Heres his setup:

Abit Ka7 - 100
athlon 700@700
Aureal Sound card
v3 2000
128 pc 133 mushkin
lucent winmodem
4 gig HD

I got everything hooked up except for the Modem and Soundcard!

He didn't want to do a fresh install because he still has a lot of stuff that he can't back up, so we used the current windows system that he was running. I know this was a bad idea, but its what we had to work with!

1) In the System Devices there are two Direct Memory Access devices installed, one has a conflict saying the certain vxd cannot load the drivers properly. I'm at a loss at what to do here.

2)I first decided to install the winmodem. It installs fine, but windows doesn't detect it when tyring to dial up his local isp!? When I check the info of the modem it says its not properly installed. Its installed on comport 3, but in the comport section it only goes to comport 2. Everytime I try to add a comport, so I get a comport 3, I get the bluescreen of death with a vxd error!

3) After I was unable to install the winmodem I tried installing the soundcard on its own. When I install the drivers I just get the blue screen of death.

HELP HELP HELP! plz Thank you ahead of time!

Ok, I can possibly solve 2 of your problems.

First the device conflict. Go to one of the devices in device manager and simply click remove. Then restart and it should reinstall that device, hopefully avoiding your conflict.

Second the modem. I'm fairly sure com 2 is for modems and the other coms are designated for other devices. The modem should be installed on com 2 at all times.

You need a clean install. I reccomend using an extra hard drive to back it up. Make sure you put the two hard drives on different channels if you do this so the transfer rate is faster.

OR

If you really don't want to do that, disable all of the drivers. I mean every single one of them and when you restart your computer, it will redetect all of them. This should solve your problems.

remove all (ALL) soundcard and modem first from add/remove hdware, then remove from dev. man.
Shut down cold
Pull both cards (sound/modem)
Boot into safe mode (F8), go to dev man.(win./pause keys), remove any extra "ghost" modems or sound cards
Shut down cold
Install modem card
Boot to integrated peripherals BIOS page, disable legacy on mobo (serial external) com port 1 and com port 2
On power management page, put modem use IRQ 3
on PNP page, enable reset config data (by BIOS chip)
Save (F10)and boot into windows
Reinstall modem drivers designating com port 2 (will be PCI using now disabled legacy COM2 02F8-02FF I/O address range)
Old not used legacy com 1 serial mouse is normally loaded as P/S2 - IRQ 12 nowadays. You will have NO COM ports in devman, but the modem will show as COM2
Shut down
Install sound card
Boot, install its drivers
