Im wondering which is better since both are via. I cant seem to find a review with both in it comparing each other. Another important point is being able to use the zalman acu7000 which id really like to implement. Thanks!

Abit Review @ Hard OCP

Asus Review @ Hard OCP

I would go with the Abit, but the two do perform very closely performance wise/overclockability since they are on the same platform. The Abit does include the OTES system, which may help overclocking a bit, but with hte lack of an AGP/PCI lock, overclocking is going to be limited anyway.

My convern however is for the zalman cooler. Many people say the asus is worse but it do know it does support my heatsink fan. If the abit doesn then it would be perfect

My best guess would be to E-Mail Zalman and see what they say, because they do not have a supported Socket 754 Motherboard section yet. The only concern I would have with the Abit is the OTES system being in the way. The Asus looks like it Would work, you might just have to take the bracket around it off. In either case, checkout somewhere like amdmb.com and their forums to see if anyone has put one on there boards or just E-Mail Zalman (zalman@zalmanusa.com). They also have a telephone number: 1-714-693-8880

Another new review of the Abit KV8 Max3 here ,

Overclocking our hardware on the KV8-MAX3 was nothing but exciting. The motherboard proved to us that it can bring out the full potential an Athlon64 system can currently offer with a VIA K8T800 chipset.

Abit gets my vote.

Im using a Zalman AlCu7000 on my Asus K8V and it works fine? Theres no clearence issue or anything, you just take off the retention thing around the cpu and screw in those gold nuts that come with the Zalman. Its keeping mine quite cool at 5V silent mode.
