I have an Abit AX8 MB and the backplate for the (939 socket) processor heatsink was cracked.

Anyone know where I can purchase a standart K8 backplate? I heard that that it is made out of metal and not the cheaply made plastic type.

Thank you for your reply Whiznot. Your link points to a backplate for
a Gigabyte K8 (socket 754/939/940) motherboards. Will this fit a AX8 MB?

I assume that your cracked backplate is plastic and that a metal replacement would be preferable. You may wish to email Jab-tech to see if Thermalright's backplate will work on your MB. I am almost certain the Thermalright backplate will work based on the following. A standard backplate that fits sockets 754, 939 and 940 is supplied with a Zalman CPU cooler for AMD motherboards. According to Zalman this standard backplate fits both Gigabyte and Abit boards. In short, I think that AMD backplate size is standardized for sockets 754, 939 and 940.
