Abit IX38 QuadGT struggles

Intricated

Junior Member
Hi new to the forums.

Recently my power supply died so After getting my new one hooked up it, I turn it on and I get the error code 8.6. then hear a longer beep followed by 3 more beeps. Does that post code point to my power supply. Also wondering if anyone knew what the error code pointed to. Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks.

p.s. UPS has a bad website and poor customer service!

You didn't tell us the make/model of your motherboard, and beep codes are not the same for all manufacturers. You should be able to go to the manufacturer's site to search for them, or search Google for the words, "beep codes" and the manufacturer's name.

Searching for words "in quotes" will prioritize the search for both words together, instead of either, independently.

Meanwhile, start by unplugging and reseating your RAM, video card and any other plug in card in your system to see if that resolves the problem.

Good luck. 🙂

Wait no the motherboard is a Abit IX38 QuadGT its in the subject! lol

Oops! Sorry I missed that. 😳

I searched for Award BIOS and beep code and found a couple of different answers. One suggested it relates to the vid card. Another suggested that it indicated a problem reading the BIOS.

If my previous suggestions to reseat your RAM and vid card don't help, try using the jumper to clear the CMOS.
