ABit IT7 -- USB Issues under Windows XP

I've had my ABit IT7 board for several months now, but there's been an ongoing problem that I've yet to solve with it.

Basically, every now and then Windows XP "forgets" to detect my generic USB keyboard & Microsoft Trackball Explorer mouse -- basically meaning I can't do anything). Unplugging then re-plugging in the devices doesn't work, and the only solution is to power off the computer and hope it will work.

I've found this scenario occurs more often after a warm boot.

Finally, I'm using the 8Y BIOS, and the drivers supplied on the CD-ROM for USB 2.0 support.

Any ideas?

there is an upgrade bios, 9W if i'm not mistaken.

which usb port you use??? the tops four is intel, and the driver is
not included at the CD and the bottoms 2 is VIA which has
the driver on the CD. you should not use the via's USB for the keyboard.

Once you have the new BIOS get the new USB 2.0 drivers here:
USB 2.0 Drivers

The readme file:
ABIT USB 2.0 Driver for Intel ICH4

System Requirement:

1. ABIT motherboards with Intel ICH4 south-bridge chip.
2. Windows 98SE/Me/2000/XP

Installation:

0. For more detail, please refer to

http://fae.abit.com.tw/eng/faq/note/intel_ich4_usb20.htm

1. Install Intel INF update. If you have installed the INF driver before,
skip to next step please.
2. Upgrade to the latest BIOS.

* IT7: BIOS A4 - SVID:147B and SSID:7406
* BD7II/BD7II-RAID: BIOS AJ - SVID:147B and SSID:7402
* BG7: BIOS AH - SVID:147B and SSID:7403
* BG-71: BIOS 9S - SVID:147B and SSID:1005

Since the SVID and SSID have been changed, Windows may find new device
(USB Controller) and ask you to insert the driver disk. Please click
"Cancel" to skip this message and go to next step.

3. Run "ABIT_USB20_ICH4_206.EXE" and extract files to "C:\ABIT\USB20_for_ICH4"
folder (default).
4. Run "SETUP.EXE" and restart the computer.
5.
5.a) For WindowsXP users only:

After restart, Windows may find "USB 2.0 Root Hub Device". Please
click "Next". Then you will find a dialog box to confirm the hardware
installation. Click the <Yes> button please.

5.b) For WindowsMe users only:

If Windows ask you to locate the path of "ochousb2hub.sys", please
direct to "C:\ABIT\USB20_for_ICH4" (default folder)
