OK after 2 frustrating days I think I have a bad Abit IT7 board.

Here is the story and troubleshooting done so far:

So I just built a IT7 and a P4 2.26 533mhz.

I had 2 x 256 DDR 266mhz EP C2100 CC registered memory chipsets from crucial
but the system would boot up and stay at POST code A7.

I found if I took out that memory and placed in PC2100 266mhz NON-ECC
Crucial (2x256Mb) DDR sticks the machine posts fine.

So I buy 2 x 512 ddr 266mhz PC2100 from Kingston and the machine hangs at
boot with the A7 error.

I place the PC2100 266mhz NON-ECC Crucial (2x256Mb) DDR sticks the machine
posts fine.

Then I flash the bios and place the KINGSTON memory in 2 x 512 and the
machine boots fine WOW I think - but no

I turn off the machine for longer than 5 minutes and the machine does not
post it sits at the A7 POST Code error.

I take out the memory and place in the 2-256mb Crucial and the machine
boots.

I turn off the machine put in the KINGSTON memory in 2 x 512 and the
machines stops at a POST Code A7.

I think clear the CMOS using the motherboard jumper and the machine POSTS.

OK so I think great run the machine for 2 hours doing the Prime Test and
3dmark no problems.

Turn the machine off for 5 minutes and it POSTS with the POST Code error A7
again with the KINGSTON memory in.

So I clear the CMOS using the motherboard jumper and bingo it boots.

Comments ? RMA to Newegg I think

Sorry but it is difficult to follow exactly which memory you were using and what results you had. It looks like you had "PC2100 266mhz NON-ECC Crucial (2x256Mb) DDR and it worked fine. Then when you tried to substitute the "2 x 512 ddr 266mhz PC2100 from Kingston , the system hangs. Is there a reason that you cannot use the Crucial? Or is this simply a "typo", adding to the confusion. Or is it that when you went from 512 to 2 X 512, that you ran into trouble? Can you clear this up a bit?

If it helps you, the i845 ( D/E/G) does not support registered ram.

I've got exactly the same problem with my IT7.

I use 2 Kingston 512MB DDR 266 CAS2 modules and a P4 2,4GHZ at 533MHz FSB

My BIOS-rev is 8Y.

Dunno what the solution is, but I have mailed my problem to Abit and my mobo-supplier.

I had the exact problem: I was trying to use ECC memory in my IT7 and I got all those POST codes. So I Got new non-ECC memory and still had problems.

My solution: RMA my board back to newegg and use the non-ECC memory. I would have liked to have gotten ECC to work however. Anybody gotten ECC registered to work? Unregistered?

Today I have received a new IT7 board, but still the same A7 problem.
I think it is a combination of some hardware. Abit - Kingston for example. I use non-registered Kingston RAM

I wrote this message to ABIT tech. peoples:

Dear friends,

I have bought new motherboard ABIT IT7 and while booting there appeared POST code A7. I did not found it in the manual and I do not know what does it mean. If I has clear CMOS it solve the problem, but next day when I try to boot, the POST code appear again and beep and beep. Monitor have black screen and I have to clear CMOS again. I do not like clearing CMOS every day so I please you - help me!

Config. of my PC:
Pentium 4, 2.4MHz/533
2x DIMM DDR 512MB,PC266(2100),VIKING,CL2
2x Maxtor 6L060J3 60GB D740X UATA 133,7200 ot/min.
1x 3D Blaster GeForce4 Titanium 4400 128MB DDR TVout
1x Sound Blaster Audigy Platinum (10K2+2x1394+Internal Drive Bay)

...... but no reply recieved.

I found some interesting information about POST code A7 on this page - http://www.genitech.com.au/LIBRARY/TechSupport/InfoBits/post_codes.htm

There are some informations about A7 POST Code:
NMI and parity enabled. Going to do any initialization required before giving control to optional ROM at E000.

What does NMI mean?

thanks for your advice
Pavel

Non-Maskable Interrupt.

If memory serves, an NMI is an interrupt that has the first priority over anything else that can happen on the board... beyond that, I'm at a loss. :(
