Abit IS7 doesn't like Corsair TwinX PC3200LL?

I have a 2.4C and an Abit IS7 board.

With an OCZ PC3500 basic edition ram, I can do FSB 272, with memory ratio of 3:2. So the memory is at 181 mhz.

However, with a single or double stick of Corsair TwinX 3200LL ram, I cannot run at that setting, even though the memory speed is still well below the rated speed. The best I can do for TwinX is FSB 250, memory ratio of 5:4 (effective memory speed = 200mhz).

Can someone explain whats going on? Why does the ram do 200mhz and not 181mhz.

I tried up to 2.65. Do I really need to up the vdim that high?

edit: 2.8 still doesn't work, when I go 260+ fsb with the corsair, the computer refuses to post. It just gives a long beep. (I tried 3:2 and 5:4. Tried lowering memory timings, GAT settings, everything 🙁)

I'm concerned that the ram does 200mhz but not 181 mhz.

it doesn't sound like the problem is isolated to the ram. it sounds like the combo of the twinx and the higher fsb are not liking each other. i am not completely familiar with the new P4C's but try setting the fsb to the stock 200 and running the ram in sybcronous mode. then slowly up the fsb while still in synchronous mode and see what the ram can handle that way.i really don't know what else but i will ponder and read to see if i can help.

EDIT: narf did you try relaxing the settings on the ram maybe it just can't handle the 2 2 2 5 at 181. try 2 2 2 6 or even 2 3 3 6 if you have to.

Yeah, I just don't understand why the motherboard won't do high FSB with the Corsair TwinX.

I mean the ram can do 200mhz (at FSB250, ratio 5:4), but it can't do 181 (at FSB272, ratio 3:2). I have tried single stick of Kingston ValueRam and single stick of OCZ PC3500, both sticks had no problems with either setting.

I'm thinking of returning the TwinX and buying another stick of OCZ PC3500 basic.

thatis probobally a good idea. i am about to go hunting to make sure that i won't have this problem with my NFII that i am getting soon with the twinx i plan on getting.

im in the same boat as you my friend
i have 2.4ghz c and 2 sticks of 512 ocz 3200 ram with the copper heat spreaders

i can get the system to post at 265 but get tons of errors but the mem wont run at the 3:2 setting
i am currently runing at 263 fsb rating with the 5:4 multiplier which means the memory is runing fine at 208 mhz
my vdimm setting is 2.65 any higher and i get errors on mem test and and lower i get tons of errors

tried tweaking everything as much as possible and it just wont post past 265 mhz
i just ordered a new cpu fan system and a new powersupply 500w ima see if that helps at all but i doubt it

anything above 265 i just get long beeps no matter what the settings
been playing with it for a little over 4 weeks
i must admit im happy with my total 3.15 ghz system but a little disapointed i couldnt get up to say 3.3-3.4 ghz

it appears everyone who is getting those results is runing the 3500 or 3700 speed rams

I don't have the same board, but you might want to make sure that the mobo doesn't require the ram to be in certain slots. I have an NF7-S 2.0 and after some problems, I read the mobo manual again and it stated that with pc3200 memory it can only run in slots 2 and 3.......like I said, I don't have the same board, but........(I have OCZ PC3200 low latency memory)....hope this helps
