And a good choice on both counts. As many have suggested with the Ultra 120 Extreme, lapping does help.
It was my first time lapping a heatsink and it wasn't a big deal. I liked this guide: Ultra 120 Extreme Lapping I used 400 grit, 800 grit, then 200 grit. DO tape the sandpaper down as the article suggests.
IP35-E would do the job if you don't need the extra bells and whistles. No need for heat pipe since the chipset runs cool, even at 488MHz FSB. See my review in MB forum. Note that the IP35 and IP35-E will double post during cold start, adding about 14 seconds to the boot time.
My IP35 and Ultra-90 are getting here from mWave and SVC (respectively) tomorrow. Can't wait to tear down my rig. I'll post whether the Ultra 90 fits when i get it, but i really don't expect a problem.
Doesn't thermalright have a list of compatible mobos? Maybe these abits are too new to be on there yet. (shrug).
My Ultra-90 fits like a glove (not surprise). Really happy with the IP35 and how well the U-90 cools. I've got a PD915 at 3.85GHz (1.323V) and during 3DMark06 the hottest it got was around 70C (during CPU test). Idles @ 50.
