Abit IP35 Pro + Suspend from Vista 64

I really tried looking for this. Either no one has had this problem before or I'm missing something obvious:

I just setup an abit IP35 pro, and everything runs beautifully except suspend. For one, I can't get the computer to come back from suspend (tried keyboard, mouse, etc), and I'm forced to restart it. I'd also like to see the case fans (at least the ones attached to the mobo) turn off on suspend, but this doesn't happen.

Anyone know how I can get either one to work? My BIOS settings for suspend are S3, Suspend to RAM. I don't see anything else that's relevant to suspending.

I thought this might be related to my keyboard not working on boot menus (after bios, before OS), but after changing my keyboard support to BIOS, the machine still doesn't come back from suspend. Also, the power button doesn't seem to do anything. I can only restart.

Any help would be great. Thanks.

Flash the 14 BIOS. Load Optimized default. Suspend may not work with some USB keyboards. You should be able to restart by hitting the power button. A P/S 2 mouse or keyboard should also work.

CPU and SYSTEM fan headers should turn-off the fan.

Check the Power Management settings for the "USB Root Hub devices" in Device Manager and try disabling power saving.

Apparently my BIOS was already at 14. I loaded the optimized defaults and when I suspended all the fans kept running but the system did seem to suspend. I brought it back with a few taps of my keyboard. I tried again this morning and I got different results: *all* the fans went off but I couldn't wake it with the keyboard or mouse. So I hit the power button and then it came back on from suspend (I like these results best). I don't think I actually changed any configurations, though. Weird.

I'll keep tinkering with the settings. I haven't tried jdkick's suggestion yet. Testings system suspends takes a while

Anyway, thanks guys.

I'm guessing this has nothing to do with it, but I had issues with waking in Vista with my 7600GT video card. I switched to an ATI card and it has worked fine ever since. I'm pretty sure that my fans turned back on though I just didn't get the monitor to wake back up.

Found the problem: "High Performance" power plan. At some point Vista changed my power options from Balanced to High Performance. I remember reading a lot of issues in regards to suspending with that power plan in Vista back when Vista was just released, and it just slipped my mind. Oh well.

Thanks, everyone.

Now you know why Vista is still not widely embraced as we approach the 1 year anniversary. I'm still running WXP Pro SP1. May even pass on SP3.
