This may be a dumb questions, but please help a noob out. I recently put together a rig with this MB and a Q6600.

Under BIOS uGuru CPU vcore options, I only see 1.3175(I think) as the lowest voltage available on the list. The list is devoid of any voltages under that.

Do you think this is because I am running on older BIOS? MB is revision 1.1, but I am aware newer BIOS are available.

uGuru under Vista doesn't run at all for me; when I double click on uGuru.exe, an error window immediately pops up and displays "error encountered blah blah," but that's another problem.

Any help would be appreciated!

The reason I ask is because under AnandTech's review, there is a screenshot of BIOS uGuru with Q6600 showing 1.25v.
 
recent abits set the manual low Vcore threshold according to the particular CPU VID installed - presumably your CPU has a VID of 1.3175V.
of course running C1E & EIST will allow for lower voltage to the cPU during operation.

uGuru 3.107 is on the ftp, see if that works for you.
 
That's the lowest official Vcore you can set in BIOS. C1E and EIST will further reduce voltage and core speed. Expect to see sub 1.1Vcore @ idle if you see 1.3175 in BIOS.

It seems that "VID" refers to some information on the CPU chip which tells the default voltage amount for that particular chip.

Quick question: Can the VID be changed, or does it reside in read-only memory on the chip? (probably.. similar to multiplier?)

So in other words, each Q6600 chip has it's own VID and the MB shows the default vcore as its lowest?

EDIT:Found this thread. Thanks for the help! Learn new things everyday. Still, how come the MB doesn't give me an option to under volt?

True But.

Many folks do not do any thing that is very functional with their Rigs, so in reality it does not matter so much how the computer work.

However every one wants to stick out as being special.:thumbsup:

In our days every Tom, Dick, and Harry can OC, so to be special you need to be an Under Clocker. :shocked: - 😉 - :thumbsdown:
