Abit ip35 Pro + intel e8400 = bios update?

I understand that I need to flash the bios on the ip35 for it to accept the 8400. I don't have an older lga775 cpu to use while I flash. Can I install the 8400 long enough to get into the bios, change the boot order, boot from a floppy (or USB, has anyone done that?), then run the flash program?

Is it possible to harm the hardware if I install the 8400 before the bios is updated?

Forgive the noob questions. Any help will be accepted.

The IP35-Pro bios version 14, released last September, supports the E8400.
So: unless the board has sat on a store shelf somewhere since last year, it should boot up fine.
Then you can flash to the latest version 16.beta10.
