i have used both brands in the past w/ great success. i am not too worried about the abit boards caps as they are known to be a quality manf and i am sure the board will have been upgraded many times by the time a cap shows an issue, so which to get?

will be running a E6750 on it @ stock speeds and 2GB of G.Skill 5-5-5-15 DDR2-800

the boards imho seem neck and neck, is it just a case of brand loyalty?

thanks in advance,
bob

they are both good boards.
1 thing that I don't like on the Gigabyte is the cut down PCB (it's narrow & depending upon your case the rh side may be unsupported) but it may not bother you.

DS3L lacks MOSFET heat sink. The onboard fan speed control cannot control 2 wire fan. BIOS is less intuitive...+V instead of actual value. The sample at my local Frys appears to have a less robust power module section. A buddy claimed that he could not get my E6320 north of 445MHz FSB (so he gave me the chip and went with a 9x multi quad).

On the visual side, the DS3L is more colorful. Comes with all solid caps (done for marketing rather than performance). Has two more SATA cables. Has a larger NB heat sink.

Also note that some IP35-E boards had bad solder at the SATA plugs. Could be a bad batch. Another individual also report that he could not get WOL to work. Finally, Antec Trio and Corsair 520/620 may not work with this board. Problem appears to be an issue with some Seasonic-built PSUs.

Review of -S3L (not 100% solid caps) vs -E...

I went with the IP35-E per SerpentRoyal's recommendation and so far it ROCKS! Have an E2160 in the starts of overclocking. My USB was a little wacky at first with Win XP 64Bit but all is running smooth with 4GB of ram ;)

As of yesterday Corsair were still saying that they've seen under 20 incidents of this.
Given the nos. of mobos & PSUs that's not a lot at all - 20 more than everybody would like but not really a big problem overall.

I wouldn't trust that 20 count. We probably see at least 2 reports here and 4 @ Abit forum. Add those Asus boards and those that go unreported....easy +100.

Never trust name that is unintelligable code. JK

I personally own a ip35-e and its working great.

Also, I've seen the ip35-e for under $70 where the GA-P35-DS3L is going for 100 or more.

Well, I was only talking about the ones involving abits.
Many of the reports on this & other forums are of course by the same people posting for help in different places so you can't say 2 here & 4 at abit forums =6.

Abit does not have the financial clout of Asus. Therefore, the IP35 Pro, IP35-E, and IP35 share a lot of major key components to reduce expenses. The Pro board uses a slighly different layout to accommodate more bells and whistles. Performance should be nearly identical between the three boards. All will require additional air flow at PWM and NB heat sinks when pushing a quad north of 3.4GHz.

Concerning the Corsair/IP35 issue, has anyone figured out if the problem is in the board or in the PSU? Are these otherwise good PSUs that just won't work with this board?

thanks for all the info guys, turns out a serial port is needed, so the gigabyte wins this one by that :)

& therein lies the rub - are these good boards that won't work with these PSUs or good PSUs that won't work with these boards or 50/50
I don't know if either Corsair or abit has actually got a non-functioning pair back to work out why.
Yellowbeard the Corsair rep has tried several PSUs on his IP35 Pro & they've all worked & there are certainly more users using the pairing OK than having problems with them.

I just finished my new rig with an IP35-E and a Q6600. I get 3.2GHz on stock voltage and 3.6GHz with 1.45V. All air cooled.

Highly recommended

There is No way to go below the price of last few weeks.

So it is possible that marketing decided to "Jack it Up" so they can declare few weeks from now Holydays Special, and get it back to the lower price.

I think the problem is rooted within the ON/OFF and/or power regulation circuits of those PSUs. Problem is not unique to Abit boards.

I thought we were talking about ip35 e, not ip35 pro. I have an ip35 pro paired with an hx520. No problems at all.
