My Question is Antech Blue 480 watt power supply 20pin/4 pin 12volt plugs
Dangerous to use with the below ?
I am not a game player and if I over clock it may be to 3.0 mhz CPU clock from 2.4

I ran this question on a CPU thread and received mixed messages
Will I be compromising my system Antech Blue 480 watt power supply 20pin/4 pin 12volt plugs. Is it dangerous to use it with the below ?

I bought and just received the following:
Abit Ip35-E
Intel Q6600 CPU from Club.it
ZeroTherm Btf90CPU cooler
Samsung SATA 20X DVD burner
MSI Radeon 2400 Pro pci X 16 video card
Western Digital Raptore 10000 RPM 75 gig 16mb buffer

This order below was shipped Thursday 11/8/07 and will not arrive till next week Wednesday in Hawaii.
Crucial Ballistix PC2-6400 2GB 2X1GB DDR2-800 CL4-4-4-12 240PIN Dual Channel Memory Kit

I'm using an E2180 with the ip35-e with an older Enermax 350 watt supply. Just built it a few days ago, and runs great. I have an Asus 7600gs silent video card, an nec burner, a sony dvd-rom, 2 Maxtor 60 gig sata, 2 gig corsair dhx ddr800, Audigy 2 ZS, 1 panaflo 92 mm, 1 panaflo 80mm, and stock Intel cpu cooling.
The Enermax supply has only the 4pin 12v connector and the 20 pin main connector. Still works fine.
Had some trouble loading win2000 drivers (I'm a luddite) but all is now well. Have yet to do any overclocking, but I am thrilled that this machine is so much quieter than my old P4 3.2e, and so much less heat from the cpu.

I am glad your system, is working fine, and sounds like mine should work too.
The thing that concerns me is that I have a Q6600 duo quad and you have a duo E2180. And I am not sure how much more demanding the quad's pull of current is than the E2180... So I will still wait a bit, hoping for someone with a Q6600 CPU to tell me.
My current system is a Athlon 3200 2.2 mhz, and takes a long time to boot. That is why I purchased the Raptor.
So with a huge cooler and a more demanding CPU and a more demanding hard drive, and lastly wanting to over clock the speed from 2.4 to 3.0 mhz, I was a bit unsure to experiment without first asking.

It will work, but if you want peace-of-mind, then go with Antec Earthwatts 500. The build quality on all older Antec PSUs can be hit or miss due to the use of sub-par components.

You should be ok with the 480 antec. You can use a 20 to 24 pin converter plug, available for about $5.

I will keep "but if you want peace-of-mind," in mind. Thanks for the heads up, otherwise.

I was warned by SuperRoyal in his thread, that some Raptor Hard drives do not work well with some Abit and Asus motherboards and that the PSU was a suspect. And his 2nd addition here above. So I will watch out for them.

As to your suggestion for an adopter, I wonder if I will need it, because, it worked fine in another Asus motherboard socket 754 24 pin, I simply plugged the 20 pins into the 24 pin socket and the 4 pin 12 into its socket and the motherboard fired up fine, I still use that motherboard and an older PSU 350 watts and it gives me no problems. ( a 20 pin directly into the 24 pin)

Is the adopter necessary? or is it only on some boards or is it just stopping questions how to hook the 20 into 24 pins which I am sure many will ask.
