Hello guys.
I wasn't sure where to put this topic, so feel free to move it to the appropriate forum.
I've had my Abit IP35-E for a while. I have a 5.1 speakers setup. When I first installed Windows XP (about six months ago) I configured the sound card through the Realtek HD Audio Manager to use all 6 speakers. I remember running the audio test for each speaker and everything was ok. I mean, each channel was coming out of the right speaker.
One week ago I noticed the audio configuration wasn't working fine. I ran the tests again, and even though it's configured for 6 speakers, the sound coming out of the sound card seems to be some sort of stereo.
Here's what I did:
I connect my earphones to the FRONT speakers jack. If I click the front left or the front right speaker on the screen, I hear the sound coming out of the corresponding earphone. So far so good. Now, if I click the rear left or rear right speaker on the screen, I hear a very faint sound. I'm not sure that's an expected behavior.
The second test was connecting my earphones to the REAR speakers jack. If I click rear left or rear right on the screen, I can only hear the same faint sound I heard before! Now, if I click the fron left or right on the screen, I can hear the sound, loud and clear.
In a nutshell, regardless where I plug the earphones (front or rear jack), only the sound of the front channels can be heard. Surround channels are very faint.
Then I connected the earphones to the center/subwoofer jack; the subwoofer doesn't make any sound at all if I click it, and the center channel only has a very faint sound if clicked, and I hear it on both earphones. That tells me those audio channels are not properly sent to the center/subwoofer.
I'm sure the speakers are fine (I connected each pair of speakers to my iPod).
I already tried uninstalling the drivers and installing the latest version. No success.
I've installed and uninstalled the Combined Comunity Codec Pack many times. Can it be the cause of my problem?
I really appreciate any help you can give me.
