new problem/post:

after updating my bios through windows i've had no success getting windows to install on my motherboard. should i consider this motherboard trashed or is there something i can do with my bios update problem that will allow me to keep it?

old post:
I've had it for a few years now. Since the day I got it I've had this problem(more so annoying than anything). When I power on my PC, it runs for about 5 seconds then shuts off for about 2 seconds then turns back on and POST, boots into windows etc.

I remember hearing updating my bios would fix what appears to be a normal problem with this motherboard. I've never flashed a bios and am a little nervous on what to do or how to go about it. Perhaps it's easy as 123 this day and age.

Any one care to comment?

You can wade through the old and updated Abit IP35-E threads for your answers.
This motherboard, and others with this chipset, always double booted. Not sure if they solved this with a bios update.
Most people don't recommend flashing the bios from Windows, but my son used Abit's Windows bios update software many times to flash his bios on this MB with no problems.

Flash to the latest Beta 18 or regular 18 BIOS. This will resolve the double post at startup as long as AC power is available at the power supply (red led on the MB after shut down).

Apparently you have an inline switch disconnecting your PC from the wall. I do this with virtually everything in my house to eliminate ghost loads, see sig. So once that was explained to me I've just learned to live with the double boot.

alright, posting tghis from my laptop.

i downloaded the two files above. installed the flash program. loaded it up, pointed it to the bios file. it said it was going to clear my cmos unless i uncheck 'clear cmos'. i unchecked it due to me not remember all the voltage settings i had set on m cpu overclock(been too long since i've messed with it). i proceeded. it did it's thing and prompted me to reboot. i reboot and it just sat there running with no post... i let it run for a good minute plus and turned it off.

turned it back on, nothing, everything running without a post. i then took the cmos battery out, same result. cleared the cmos jumper, turned it on to the same result.

wtf did i do wrong? did i just fuck up my motherboard?! just got a new case and video card in an hour ago from UPS and now i can't get anything to work after flashing my bois=[

well... after trial and error. i plugged my new gpu in and it booted right up.. the double boot problem is still around but i'll just live with it. not sure what went wrong during my bios update but so far i'm running my new install without problems. computers make my teeth itch.

after the bios flash the dual boot was still present. i then proceeded to install windows 7 with success. upon booting in i installed nvidia drivers then rebooted. when i came to the 7 splash screen it froze. it sat there for 4 hours. same with safe mode, couldn't get pasts loading screen.

so i stuck my dvd in and proceeded to boot off of it. it wouldn't even try to boot off the dvd although i had it set to. it's like it completely skipped over it and went straight to booting off the HD which said "NTDLR is missing". i could never get it to do anything past that. i've never had this problem until i updated bios. boggles my mind.

i got windows 7 installed on it. however, none of my USB ports work now.

i'm about ready to sell it all and just play my xbox. this is too frustrating. what would cause the USB ports not to work?

Also, stag3, i didn't see anything about AHCI in my bios settings..

usb ports, just use the keyboard, go into device manager, delete the usb hubs
and reboot
that fixed it for me, i had the same issue every once in awhile during an os install

this is why i never got rid of my ps/2 keyboard lol
