Is there a possible wqay i can boot winsodws xp cd from the abit ip35 e? im trying to do everything i can but it just wont work. it wont even recognize my cd-rom or hdd from ide.
 
Hey there.

The 4-pin molex connector is to provide additional power to the second PCIe port if you had a device that needs it, which, chances are, you don't. It's not for the x16 slot where your GPU would go.

The 8-pin socket on the top left corner is actually where your 12v 4 pin connector goes. If you look, the notch is positioned such that you you can snap into place and leave the remaining plugs empty. I discovered this using an Antec Earthwatts 380 with the board for a while.
 
Your optical drive is PATA(wide gray cables) or SATA(thin red cables)? Does the BIOS of the IP35 recognize the drive? If not, make sure its properly connected to a good power line and connected to the IP35 with the PATA or SATA cable. If its a PATA drive, it may need its jumpers configured to be seen properly. And you've set the boot sequence to boot from the CDROM first, yes?

is the JMicron active & selected as first boot device?
shouldn't be any problem booting from an XP disc.
