I'm having an issue with the OnBoard Audio with on my Abit Ip-35E. It isn't recognized in Windows. It shows up as an unknown PCI devise in the devise manager. Installing the lastest driver on Abit's site doesn't help. It worked under SP2. So I'm thinking it's a driver issue with SP3. Anyone else run into the same thing? I have a Sound Blaster Live I could plug in, but would rather just run on-board if possible.

Thanks in advance.

Update: Abit site has driver version 1.8. I went to Realtek's site and grabbed version 1.95 from there. Still no luck. Anyone?

it's a realtek/SP3 issue.
did you upgrade from SP2 & it stopped working or was it a clean install > SP3 & then failed driver install?

When I built the system in my sig I installed Sp2. The audio worked. Then I figured before I started using my new system as my primary PC I would upgrade to SP3. After upgrading XP would not boot. I then did a clean install with SP3 Slipstreamed on the XP CD. This worked, but as I said the RealTek Audio shows up as an unknown devise. I've noticed in the install package it only has drives for Xp SP1 and SP2. I guess I'll just have to wait. Price of early adoption...

Sounds like an issue with the Microsoft UAA components. The easiest thing to do is probably a fresh install of SP2, make sure the UAA components are installed (usually bundled with the audio driver... the actual device will present in Device Manager under "System devices") and install the audio drivers. Upgrade to SP3 afterwards. If you want to go the slipstreamed route, you will need to do some hackery to get incorporate the UAA drivers.

Edit: Maybe give this a try: http://boredsysadm.blogspot.co...icrosoft-hd-audio.html

What were you having a problem with, that you think SP3 would take care of ? i.e. Why is it an upgrade for you ?

JDKick, Thanks I've checked out the link seems very promising. When I get home from work I'll try it out. I wasn't having any problems I was trying to "Fix" with SP3. I just figured since I was not relying on the new system yet it would be a good time to jump to SP3. I figured I would go there eventually anyways.

I'm glad my little article was useful to you guys. In fact it was the first one I posted on my blog and I got a lot of attention from internet about it. Lots of people used and found my methods helpful.

Thanks again to jdkick for posting the link, and Thanks for Bored SysAdmin for writing up the solution. My RealTek Audio is now working like a charm. Very simple solution!

Glad to hear it. Unfortunately, it's yet another example of Microsoft dropping the ball. I maintain ~1300 desktops/notebooks at work and run into stuff like this all too often... and it takes up time that could be much better spent. I'm curious how Microsoft is handling this for TechNET subscribers and Volume License customers?

Wow 1300? I did IT for a while at a university research lab. I have 10 servers and about 30 workstations. I thought that was bad! It always amazes me what major companies consider a "Finished" product. Too many times I would run into problems and have to tinker with registry settings or enviroment variables to get things going.
