The backplate provided w/ the SLK-947U cannot be attached using the stock setup of the Abit IC7 Max3. My question is:

Do i remove the retention cage & apply the backplate (if so how would i go about removing the retention cage)

And if not then should i just use the retention mechanism?

from the pictures I've seen on both of these, you'll need to remove the plastic pins from the motherboards hs/f retension box, (should be easy enough with a smal pair of needlenose plyers) if you're carefull enough you can save it for later use if you change heatsinks, or re-sale the board. then install the slk-947u's retention bracket as shown in it's manual.

From the underside of the retention thing, insert a toothpick to move off the white pin upwards so that you can easily use the plier to move off the retention bracket. I have the sp-94 heatpipe version of this HS - its really great. I wonder though whether these heatsinks will fit into that space cramped by the OTES enclosure?
