Here are some benches to compare the "Game Acceleration" options in the new "025" BETA BIOS (Version 14??). These replaced the "performance mode" options in previous BIOS versions.
I didn't have a bunch of time to spend on this, but you should get some idea of the performance difference between the modes. Also due to lack of time, I did not run stability tests. I will say there was no sign of instability during any of the benchmarks.
B]Abit IC7 / P4 2.6C BIOS "025" Benches[/b]
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TEST SYSTEM
Abit IC7 - BIOS version "025" Beta
P4 2.6C SL6WH Pack 05/02/03
No overclock
Corsair XMS3200C2 (2x 512) mb
Alpha 8942 - Panaflo M1A
Radeon 9700P No overclock
Antec True330 - 330 watt PS
Win XP Pro SP1a
DX 9.0a
TEST SPECS
ABIT IC7 i875P = 1.525 Vcore | 1.55 VAGP | 2.8 Vdimm | PCI/AGP 66/33 | 1:1 ratio | DC DDR 400 | cas 2-2-2-5
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BENCHMARKS Auto | Turbo | Street Racer | F1
> 3DMark2001 < default
16115 | 16212 | 16391 | 16470
> UT2003 Demo < 1024x768x32, flyby - botmatch
207.68-71.61 | 209.75-73.57 | 207.48-74.4 | 211.56-74.35
> Quake III 1024x768x32 < max quality settings
344 | 351 | 355.5 | 354
SiSoft unbuffered
2799/2861 | 2869/2937 | 3105/3185 | 2907/2973
The settings seem a bit more aggressive than the 13 BIOS "performance mode". With mu normal 257 FSB overclock an 5:4 ratio, I could boot and run with "turbo" with the 13 BIOS. It was almost stable, but would error in Prime95 after an Hr or two. With the 025 BIOS, I can not complete a POST with turbo enabled even with relaxed mem timings.
