As the topic says, the chipset fan on my IC7 is making some horrendous grinding and howling noises. It is definitely not turning as fast as it used to (down to 3K RPM).

Is there a drop in replacement fan that I can put in its place?

Thanks!!

maybe a little late, but i decided to get this chipset cooler instead since the same replacement fan will just wear out in a few months anyways -

you can buy em anywhere. just screw in a new fan, connect to whatever connector.

Most ~40mm chipset fans use a bushing that dry out rather quickly. I'll typically remove the fan and put a drop of teflon oil on the bushing. Good as new and saves you $$ :)

I would suggest the Zalman NB45J to replace your current fan. It cools better then the stock (I think flimsy) heatsink and it has no fan to fail after a while.

The passive Zalman is great. I replaced my nb heatsink on my Abit IS7 with it and it works like a charm.

Doesn't the Zalman require some modding in order to attach it to the IC7? I read that in the Mobo forums in the IC7 thread, as my NB fan (the original plastic one, not the new metal one) is making noise when I boot up.
