ABit IC-7G & SATA question - raid settings help?

Ok so this is an older Abit IC-7G motherboard I've got running (with latest bios) and I'm upgrading the storage a bit, but need some help.

Currently in the system I have the OS on an IDE drive (250Gb) and 2 other hard drives in SATA1 (500Gb) and SATA2 (1.5Tb) on the motherboard. I would like to add a new hard drive (2Tb) and possibly an SATA optical drive.

The motherbaord has 4 onboard SATA, but SATA3 and SATA4 are run through a separate controller than 1 and 2.

All my hard drives at this point are different sizes, so I'm not interested in running anything in RAID ... but I'm guessing I still have to install RAID and can set up the system in non-RAID arrangement, is that right?

I need help tweaking the settings cause when I tried enabling RAID in the bios and starting up the system with the new drive plugged in SATA3 it would freeze up on recognizing the new drive before getting to windows. And if I remember correctly, I tried just starting up with those same settings but without the hard drive in SATA3, it booted to windows but then didn't recognize my drives in SATA1 and 2.

Is anyone familiar with this motherboard or just have suggestions on what I might try to get this to work? Should I try to initialize and format the hard drive as an external drive first and then add it as an internal? that shouldn't matter right?

Let me know if you need any more info to help and thank you much in advance!

That statement is not making any sense.
If you don't intend to Raid any drives, then don't set the Raid option in the bios setup.
As far as IDE drives are concerned: I'd recommend not mixing HD + optical IDE drives. Or better yet: no IDE drives at all, and put the IDE HD in an external USB 2.0 housing. Sticking more than 3 HD's inside the case would just add to the internal heat buildup.

The reason I suggested a "non-raid arrangement" is because SATA3 and 4 are run through a RAID controller ... in trying to piece together how to make this work I ran into some suggesting that they were able to put together similar setups by doing this. I am well aware of this being less than ideal for a number of reasons, heat, data redundancy, mixing IDE and SATA drives, etc ... but even if less than ideal, I should still be able to get it setup, right?

Even if I took out the IDE drive, I'd still be left with 3 different sized SATA drives, one of which would have to go to SATA3 on the board.

Any suggestions?
