Can anyone tell me their knowledge on the Abit HotRod Pro 100 UDMA100 IDE/RAID Controller? I want to know whether it's good or bad. It has a very nice price. So where is the hidden catch 22 in it? Have any of you got one?

Thanks as usual, :)

Catch is - Uses the HighPoint 370 Chipset. See all the threads about KT-7 RAID boards and issues with this less-than perfect ATA 100 Controller.

Thanks, I know that one. Any others? I know the adaptec one too. I'm looking for the best price/value ratio? I want to hookup dual 7200rpm drives (40GB each) in RAID 0.

My Soyo 6BA+100 motherboard has an integrated Highpoint 370 controller and it runs perfect with an IBM 75GXP @ ATA-100. The Highpoint 360 controller had some problems, but as far as I know, the 370 controller is fine. Search the newsgroups through Deja News for postings on the 360 & 370 controllers, to get additional insight.

Adaptec is expensive stuff, I'd say Promise will suit you just fine.

Right okay guys but the Abit card uses the improved 370 version right? So this means the only snag maybe it's a tand slower. Since I have dual P3's it won't matter if it has some more overhead right?

The Promise is also easier to get your hands on, places like Buy.com have them cheap..

I had the AbitHotrod 100 controller on my system and ran like a champ. Got it for only $40 new so you can't go wrong. The 370chip is much improved and if your running an intel system I recommend it highly. Never had 1 problem with it running on an 815 with 2 IBM's.

There are only 3 IDE Raid chipset makers. Highpoint, Promise, and CMD. IWill, Abit, Epox and many others use the Highpoint 370. MSI and others uses Promise. AMI uses CMD which is found on IWill motherboards and in CompUSA controllers.

I don't believe there is anything wrong with the controller card seperate from the motherboard. It's when they integrate it into the motherboard where people are having problems.

The Promise controllers have a higher CPU usage than the Highpoint controllers.

Highpoint is used on Abit, Soyo and Epox boards. Iwill and Asus use CMD. Gigabyte, MSI, and Asus use Promise.

Well guys. Looks like the Abit will be a good buy. Anyone know of places where I may read reviews?
