ABIT Fatal1ty AN8 vs. DFI LanParty UT nF4 Ultra-D

I'm in the market for a new motherboard and I'm having a tough time deciding which one of these two boards to buy. I've always been a big ABIT fan, and all of my motherboards have always been ABIT. However, I have a friend who recently purchased a DFI LanParty nF4 Ultra-D and couldn't say enough good things about it. Thus, I'm a little torn between the two. Below are the specs (minus the mobo) that the system will have:

  • AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Processor (939)
  • 1024MB Dual Channel PC3200 (DDR400) DDR SDRAM Corsair XMS (twinx1024-3200c2)
  • Dual Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 80GB SATA/150 8MB Cache Hard Drives in RAID-0 (striped) config
  • ATI Radeon X800 XL 256MB PCI Express Graphics Card

I've built my last several computers, so I'm definitely not a novice. I would like to do a little bit of overclocking. The most important factors to me are speed and reliability. Prior to my friend telling me about the board, I had never heard of DFI. I'm a fairly hardcore gamer and am playing Half-Life 2, Doom 3, World of Warcraft and Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory right now, just to give you an idea of what the computer will be used for. So basically, which is better for what I would use it for? Thanks in advance.

Agree with ^^^. You CPU, VC, amount of memory will make the difference in your gaming. If you are looking for OCing ability and options, then that is a reason to choose one over the other.

Okay, well then without considering gaming at all, which one is the better built board? Or does it not even matter? In that case, I'll just go with the DFI since it's about 60 cheaper. Surely there has to be a reason to go with one over the other.

The layout on the Abit is better IMO, but the NB fan on the Abit sucks and is cheap, alothough full copper HS. The magnetic one on the DFI is better and quieter.

They pretty much overclock nearly the same, give or take a few MHz, and both are very stable. Flip a coin if money is not an problem. Both will serve you well.
