Seems to be this may be a precursor to possibly another (in your words) stopgap cpu enhancenment, and opteron delay.....

Possibly driven by their need to wait for appropriate software, I don't know.....It is just being delayed after delay, and these chips are being squeezed for every last worth....I actually like that though cause I think it makes smart business sense...

I hope they just leave pr ating alone now and maybe the 400mhz fsb will allow the barton to pick up where the 512kb cache put it behind in the pr game!!!

Appropriate software? What like? An OS? ahh, got that SORTED.

And yes it might well be a stopgap, but it's not a half bad one IMHO. You'd moan if they'd launched at 20Ghz 18 months ago. The delays will only ensure the product is up to snuff, and they have competitive parts, so why play the cards early if they don't have to?

I totally agree on the last part...No rush to put chip out at much lower then current models of xps and not have all the kinks worked out....

As for the software I will wait and see when it comes out for purchase and not just info being released on it....Also please refer to the FAQ on the myths of 64bit computing to see maybe why intel is not rushing on this technology and definitely not trying to market this as a woory tool for the average desktop user....

What are reports the hammer's speed will be at launch??? What wil the opteron be launched at??? If the opteron is the business (server line) what will the premium be on the mobos???
