i have been using 1 256mb pc133 micron sdram stick in this motherbaord for years. i just bought another one (same exact one) and installed it and winxp is only detect 384mb of ram now instead of 512mb.

the only problem i can see is i have the first stick installed in the first ram slot, but the second one is installed in the third one... i had to do this because i accidently broke off one of the plastic ram clips on the motherboard.

is this is reason for my problem? i tried getting the little plastic clip to fit back in correctly but it won't.

you need to use the 2nd slot i believe has the third slot is only recognizing one side of the ram has oppose to both sides.

Arrrrggghhh! The BX6 rev 2!!! I just replaced my Abit rig with an nForce 2 (see sig) The board has 4 DIMM slots, but when I tried installing four 128s in it, Windows would run but was really unstable. I switched to two 256 MB DIMMs and the 512 worked just fine. I tried installing two of the 128's in slots 3 & 4 and they would only read as 768 but the instability returned as well. I am giving the rig to my son (5 years old) for Christmas with 512. So, in answer to your question, you have to use the second slot if the DIMM is double-sided and still use all the 'banks.' The third and fourth slots only seem to work correctly with single sided DIMMs and the stability problem may show up.
