ABIT BX6-R2 CPU Support

Abit's site states that this mobo will support up to 700Mhz (100Mhz FSB) Pentiums 3 Slot-1s. I read on this forum that people have successfully used a P3 800 CPU. What is the max that this mobo will support? I'm looking to trade up my processor.
 
I've got the latest, (QR, and probably the last) BIOS revision. The highest multiplier available is 9. There is an 8 and 8.5 also.

I'm not up to speed on Intel's faster processors, but I believe 850 is as high as you could go. I think it's the fastest they make that still runs on 100FSB.

Someone will correct me, I'm sure, if I'm wrong.🙂
 
I useda P3 733 on a 133 bus (non oced), so pretty any 133 fsb cpus.. I max it out with a 850 fc-pga (8.5x100) click on web below to take a look.. Oced to 8.5x110 ~ 935 with no problems...
 
I've got a BX6r2. Just added a Celeron2 633. In the bios, it does not have a setting for the 633. I loaded the chip on an Abit SlocketIII, went into bios and set the chip to the first 100fsb setting(300/100), then set the voltage to user defined, set it at 1.8v. Works fine. The chip's internal clock is set and locked. So the bios will not change that. I just had to figure a way to set the mb fsb to 100. You can do the same.Runs rock stable at 979mhz.
 
Thanks for the replies. I do want to stay with slot 1 though. (Don't wanna buy a sloket and new cooling) My experience overclocking my current proc (P3-500 Katami) is that this mobo does not have a 1/4 PCI divider or a 1/2 AGP divider. Does running 133Mhz FSB (44.3Mhz PCI, 88.6Mhz AGP) cause any problems for you guys?

I will most probably get a P3 in the range 750Mhz-1Ghz. Does the Ghz CPU work on this mobo?

Also, what about those "Celeron IIs"? How do they perform?

I really just want to get a good performing CPU that I can easily overclock for even more performance...
 
I am running P-III 800 SECC2 (slot 1)100MGz on my BX6 Rev 2 with QR bios No problems after I got the settings right. Have to use USER DEFINE in soft menue!

There has been alot of discussion on this subject just do a search. 😀

These guys on this forum got me squared away!😀

i am typing this from a BX6 rev 2 with a SLOT 1 700E. NW Bios.
The QW Bios allows till 9 apperently, but since the highest P3 with 100 fsb that is available in retail is the 850(the 1000 model Slot 1 100fsb is a production sample, and not intended for resale=)this is irrelevant. Forget the Celeron 2´s. They are only an option if you are REALLY short on cash and don´t mind overclocking. Intel has a price cut coming on Dec. 10 for models 667 till 750.

If you don´t overclock: Get the 850. Great performance and not to pricy.

If you want to o´c: P3 700. cheap, and most can do 933(at 133fsb)
Mine can do 1ghz.. Keep in mind that you need good ram for 133. and the divider at 133 allows the PCI bus to be at 33 since it is 1/4.
everything above 38 mhz pci is dangerous. 41 Mhz is able to corrupt
data on Harddrives. I´ve seen my friends HD messing up the win install
regestry with 41. He needed a complete reinstall.

I suggest slocket w/ fc-pga.. you'll never know how soon those mobo can fail or you wanting to upgrade... and if you do, you'll probably get a fc-pga i815 mobo so you'll be getting another cpu if you stay with slots.. but thats just my opinion..
 
Rellik, Are you sure that there is a 1/4 divider @ 133Mhz FSB??? I don't remember ever seeing that as an option...
 
There is. You have to scroll all the way through the list. I don't want to reboot right now to check, but, I think there is 133 with both 1/4 and 1/3.

I can't get 133 to work for me right now. I am unsure if it's ram or video card. I'm running a 700E at 903 (129FSB)on an Abit Slotket.

I've got 133 ram but CAS3. My video card is an old TNT2.
 
About the divider:

change the frequency to USER setting. then a list appears:

FSB/Ratio: There are multiple entries, and there are some speeds where
both options are provided(133/ 1/3 and 133 / 1/4)

like this:

100-1/3
112-1/3
and so on.. just scroll through them until you found your ratio.
 
You can use chips up to 1000mhz because the multplier is hard-locked anyway - the motherboard would just use the hard-coded multiplier read from the CPU. Intel's fastest Slot 1 chip is currently the 1000mhz in both 133mhz and 100mhz versions.
 
I checked it out and yes there is a 1/4 PCI divider @ 133Mhz FSB :Q

I guess I was thinking about the AGP divider. There are only (2/3) and (1/1) dividers, no (1/2) divider. Will running AGP at 88.6Mhz cook my video card?
 
New Question: Is it better to underclock or overclock your PCI bus?

I tried running 117Mhz FSB (1/4) = 29.25Mhz PCI bus and Windows would not boot. Files missing and such. Went back too 100 (1/3) and everything was peachy. Haven't tried 117 (1/3) yet. (Can't risk it, must finish assignment tonight)

So, what's the deal?
