Hi everyone, I have an Abit BX6 R2 MB in my second computer and want to use a P3-600E in it. does anyone know if this board will support a coppermine? I flashed to the "MW" bios awhile back. Abit's website says it will support a P3-600 but it doesn't say anything about the coppermine. Thanks

Yes it will support it but you should update your BIOS with the newer QR version.

I believe that it will. I read an article at .bxboards.com a while back that stated the FSB on the BX6-R2 is limited to 124 Mhz. Lots of folks report no such problem.

bx6.2 has bus speeds above 133, and a 1/4 pci divider option starting at 117. A 600e will be right at home, only potential issue is the typical BX limitation of 2/3 agp divider at high bus speeds.

Yes, it will. I was running a P3 650 @ 806MHz for about a year. Make sure you flash the latest bios from Abit's website.

I have one running a CII 533 FC-PGA (see below) with the NW BIOS...running it for ~ 6 months...had it up to 896 stable...great board...you should have no problem.

I have the BX6 R2 running a PIII 733 with no issues at all. Well none associated with the board anyway.

So what are some opinions of the best bang for buck chip to run on this board? I currently have a cel300@450 on a slotket. Not sure what brand of slotket it is tho, so I'm not sure how it would handle higher cpus. I guess ideally, another flip chip would be best, in case something ever happen to the board, I'd be more likely to end up with a socket board to replace it.

A cel600 might be a good chip, but I think I'd rather go with a real P3, but I'm not sure how well they'll oc on this board. Ideally, I'd like to keep it under $150.

I would recommend that you get the P3 650 or P3 700. I personally had a 650 @806MHz with default heatsink and fan and default voltage. Many have seen HIGHER frequencies. I just went over to pricewatch and both chips were under $150!

Let me know what you decide.

I have celeron 466 at 525 running on Abit BX R2 using Abit sloketI(PPGA to slot1). I am thinking of upgrading and have bunch of questions so plz. bare with me.

Here is the list of rest of system:
Voodoo3, SBlive, 1 NIC, SBLive value, 2 10GB WD, 1 stick of Micron cas2 128m and 1 stick of 64m cas3 both PC100 oops and a adaptec SCSI card PCI.

Now my question is what CPU would you guys suggest i go with? I have the latest bios and according to specs on Abit website the new bios supports as high a P3 700 100 FSB. Needless to say i would like to replace as little as possible while i go with the new CPU. Infact I might add a stick of 256m Micron and later upgrade to better quality Hard Drive but for now where do i start as far as the CPU part is concerned.

Now I have been away from the hardware scean for a little while so help me out here fellows.

thankx

I would definately go with a 650 or 700 P3 Coppermine and overclock it well into the 800MHz!

That way you know the cpu and mobo are compatible, plus you should get 150MHz+ easy!
