Abit bp6 with win2k + harddrives problem

I'm just wondering if anyone has any idea on how to fix this problem:

I have 4 harddrives:

1.) IBM 13G ATA66 7200RPM
2.) FUJITSU 13G ATA66 7200RPM
3.) MAXTOR 20G ATA66 7200RPM
4.) MAXTOR 40G ATA66 7200RPM

Something weird occurred was that, the only drive that works with ata66 on bp6 is the IBM 13G one, the rest (3) won't work, they work fine in ata33. Everytime when I tried to run something from those 3 drives (plug into ata66) the computer will restart itself. However, only IBM works perfectly on ata66.

Just wondering if I need to set those 3 drives into "Cable" instead of "Master/Slave" in order to make it work or if there's any driver or anything that will make them work under ata66?

P.S. I'm currently using the HPT66 1.25 and already flashed my bios and using RU bios.

Thank you in advance!

If a steaming pile of elephant sh!t ever came in the form of a ceramic IDE controller, the highpoint 366 controller is it.

You can try the beta 1.28 drivers on highpoint's website, however they have this weird power off issue when you shutdown.

For the maxtor drives, I'd suggest going into the highpoint's bios and set DMA mode to 3 for the maxtor drives. However, I have an old wd drive that just simply won't work with the highpoint controller, so that may be the case with your drives.

Yeah the HPT 366 has it's compatibility problems: For me with my IBM 46 Gb drive... I bought a Promise ATA 100 controller and now everthings perfect.

The problem I have: I cannot install Win2k on this machine because setup freezes after the first reboot, when detecing devices. I still have NT 4.0 on this machine.

Any help?

Coolzz, Were you trying to use one drive at a time or are you connecting more than one drive. It sounds like your other drives must have been set for ATA33. I seem to remember that there were some harddrive manufacturers that have a utility to set ATA66 to either ATA33 or ATA66.

Magic30,
Win2K will not reboot properly because you attached your bootup drive into the HPT66 controller but Windows 2000 did not load the driver completely at this time. HPT66 controller driver is loaded in two stage. I think even you use the F6 option, you only load the 1st stage. Load Windows 2000 into the drive completely while the drive is connected to the regular IDE controller. Remember to install the driver for the HPT66. When you complete the installation, move the drive connection to the HPT66 and you should not have that problem of locking up during bootup.
