Abit board ate my XP chip?

I just switched from my trusty Kt7a Raid to a KX7 board... now my XP1700 won't go past a 6x multiplier... I took the chip back out and turns out the damn temp diode BROKE one of the resistors off the chip... is this a common problem? do you think either abit or amd will replace my chip?

Dang, did you have to push your CPU down hard into the ZIF (zero insertion force) socket.
