Hey FastEd,
I'd like to know myself what processor will run in the BM6. I just got a 566 and it won't crank up. I'm running the QT bios, my board is the 1.02 rev. I ordered a PowerLeap 370 adapter should be here Tuesday. Also I read you have only 3 choices on the adapter. 66-100-133mhz. If you know any tricks for a BM6 please let me know.

I had to flash the 12/99 bios update to use a 533fcpga. I was using a Celeron500 before. I got the 533 flipchip to run @ 800mhz but never could cure the video problems. Now I want a PIII but don't know if it will run in a BM6

I would think if a Cel2 runs OK in it then so would a PIII ,seeing as its mainly avoltage issue when it comes to running PIII coppermines.
I'll see if I can dig up any info...........

[update]

This doesnt looks promising :( BM6 with Celeron cCo stepping

Well this is confusing ,maybe the cpu stepping is the more important factor!?

BM6 bios

Still looking..........

The BM6 is a funny board, I have one in my mom's machine.

It will run a Celermine series CPU with the latest BIOS but it will NOT run a Coppermine Pentium III. Why, I don't know...that is just the way it is.

Get the latest BIOS for that board. The BM6 will NOT run a P3 unless the socket is modded. 3 or 4 wires need to be soldered to some of the pins and it will work but do so at your own risk. Do a search for the mod or get the Powerleap adaptor - though I think it is too costly. My cel 566 ran at 892 quite easily.

I wanted to do the same thing, but even though the CuMine fit the socket it wouldn't boot. I called tech support and they told me a PIII CuMine WILL NOT run in a BM6 -- it's limited to Celerons only. But, for a celeron board, I found it very stable and easy to work with.

whats the fastest celery that will run on the bm6? My dads comp got a 400 in it now. I might consider a slight o/c to help speed things up.

Let us know if your PIII works with the powerleap adapter. From what I've read on the forums the BM6 will not work with cC0 stepping Celeron cpu's.
I'm not sure if cC0 stepping starts at 600mhz or 633mhz Celeron.

FastEd, if your PIII does work, and you want to sell your 533a let me know, my girlfriend wants to upgrade her BM6.
Dan808, No powerleap adapter is needed for the CII 566 on the BM6. If your having problems booting up, check your AGP divider, and make sure you have excellent cooling and thermal paste. I remember when I first got my CII I tried to run it with a heatsink only, no fan, just to see how it would overclock. 75mhz bus was the only speed I could use. And this was on on a system that was at room temp. anything else I tried was an instant lock-up. And this was with the cpu that is in my sig rig. I'm using a Gorb with silver paste.

You can modify the BM6 to work with cc0 Celerons (I've tested the 566 cc0). All it requires is a jumper from from CPU pin locations AH4 to X4 on the back of the motherboard. This jumper was part of a slotket mod featured in Tom's Hardware some time ago. It is required because Intel changed the reset pin location on the Celeron cc0 stepping CPUs.

I had been running a 533 cb0 Celeron without any problems in the unmodified (but flashed with latest Bios) BM6. The 566 cc0 Celeron wouldn't post in the BM6 without the modification. It is now running happily at 936 MHz.

FYI, I was running a cel2/600 at 900 for the past 2-3 months on an Abit BM6 and it was rock solid. I could never get it stable at a 103/105 FSB using a GORB cooler.

But, I gave the BM6 and cel2/600 to my bro, so I gotta go buy another CPU/MB combo now. Thinking about getting an Abit BX133/Raid + P3/700 combo. I was tempted to go AMD, but I'm not sure if I want to deal with the memory and power supply compatibilities worries with an Athlon Thunderbird system.
