Hi all.

I'm finally upgrading my PIII 600 to a P4 machine. Running on a budget of about Euro500 , I am thinking of :

ABIT BH7 i845PE + P4 2.4C;
Either a stick of 512MB DDR333 or DDR400;
a new 400W PSU

Does anyone think that ABIT BH7 i845PE + P4 2.4C is a good pair-up? Don't think I could afford any of those EXPENSIVE (and potentially immature) Canterwoods.

Need your advice... will be making the choice in 3 weeks' time when I head home (to Malaysia) for my Summer holidays!

Thanks!

My Rig:
PIII 600 @ 852 on FOP32 HSF + AS; ASUS P3V4X; Crucial PC133 256MB; 20GB IBM DPTA& 40GB Seagate Barracuda HDDs; Pioneer 16x Slot; Creative 121032A CDRW; MSI GeForce4 128MB; SBLive! MP3+

I have the BH7 and really like it.Excellent mobo at a cheap price.You will be hard pressed to find a better mobo other than the Canterwoods or Granite Bay at more money.Paired with a good clocking 2.4C you will be flying.:)

Yes...Even i845pe chipsets in the latest rounds of testing are not that far off of i865, i875 and e7205 DCDDR mobos....An i845pe chipset is a good holdover until maturity and waiting to see if the prices will relax to levels they should be!!!!:|

Don't plan on ocing much as I have heard of mnay not getting past 219 on that board in fsb so that means like a 2.62ghz chip....

HT is nice but if you want the highest speed you can obtain from ocing and you feel comfortable with it get a 2.4b C1 stepping chip for now and wait for the boards that can handle 300fsb's and have negative memory ratios to come down to reality.

Thanks guys! 3 replies in less than 2 min!

That's a good point Duvie. I have initially thought of the 2.4b C1, but the euphoria of 2.4c must have gotten over me! The exact same choice I had to make 3 years ago... a PIII 600 with 100FSB or 133FSB.
I wouldn't mind much if the mobo wouldn't go beyond FSB200+ for now. Heck, I have to relearn o/c since I've not touched any bios with such settings. :)

Thanks again guys!
