Abit BH7 and P4 2.4b troubles?

My manual has ABSOLUTELY NO definitions of these beep codes. Also, the memory is great so it can't be that. Also, try the link i posted (it doesn't work, copy and paste it) becaues that guy had the same problem me and another member were having. He had to RMA it. What does everyone think? I mean, i hardly even touched the processor after it was locked into place. So, i am sure that it isn't to blame. Should I RMA it?

How do you have the TT Smart Fan setup? Is the jumper in place that allows full speed operation? If not, try that.

You know what guys, i might have goofed. I Technonot, your right, i probly don't have it set the right way. Well, i'll have to play around with it to see how it should properly be plugged in. Also, I have a nearby (in the case) Coolermaster BlueLED fan that has a 3-pin connector, i believe for mainboard fan monitoring. If i plugged this in, would it allow me to see whether this is just a fan-monitoring-shutdown issue?

About any 3 pin RPM monitoring case fan should work to boot the mobo...

Yeah, it does have a 3-pin with all three wires. when i get home, i'll give it a shot.

This is a known problem (if you can call it that) with Abit boards (at least with the one I dealt with - BH7 & IT7 Max2). Make sure you have a fan connected to the CPU fan header, and avoid those variable speed fans. It seems that with variable speed fans, it just doesn't spin fast enough on initial boot for the board to let you post.

I'm about 90% sure this would solve the problem... Try it, and turn that sucker up~

Well, same old problems. I'm getting that long beep, no POST, and nothing at all appearing on the screen. I tried the 9700pro in a differnet system yesterday at a LAN party and it worked out great. THe DDR was used by my friend the other day and that worked out good. So i don't know. Do u think its a simple issue of my heatsink (Alpha PAL8942) not making good contact with the P4 processor, because Abit-usa.com FAQ did mention this. Also, i tried plugging in my case fan's RPM monitoring 3-pin power connector into the CPU fan header, and it didn't change a thing. I'm going to try the powersupply's 3-pin monitoring plug now.

I tried my powersupply's 3-pin plug for monitoring, and it didn't work at all. My RAM and vid. card all work, so i think the only thing it could be is either the mobo or the processor. I am going to rule out the processor because i handled it for a second or so. I took it out of its packaging, and locked it down into the socket. The only possible explanation is something thats vaguely mentioned at abit-usa.com's FAQ section. Go to this link, and at this page, you'll find what I am talking about under the "CPU" category:

I am thinking that my Alpha PAL8942 might not have its screws tightened enough to make good contact. I know its not the thermal grease because i used the Antec version of Artic Silver and i used more than enough. However, there is also the possibility this mobo is simply defective, and that i have to return it. I bought mine from the same place (www.googlegear.com) as this person (http://forum.abit-usa.com/showthread.php?s=97b61acf04e3c5a4f1c0f7b1e93896aa&threadid=6826), and this person had to RMA theirs. Also, my mobo manual has nothing about beep-codes. I looked up the standard beep codes, and none are what i have. I have repetitive and very annoying long beeps. They even come out thru my 2.1 Altec Lansing speakers (connected to onboard audio plug) as well as the mobo/case speaker.

What does everyone think?

never mind guys. I re-assembled my heatsink/fan unit, plugged in the 3-pin plug from my TruePower PSU, and it works. I just installed WinXP Home and drivers and junk
