Abit BH6...

Hello everyone,

I was wondering if anyone could tell me what is the fastes CPU the Abit BH6 can handle. My b/inlaw's system currently has a Cel 333, and his son got a new game which requires a faster CPU (450 processor).

Thanks much....

Well the latest bios for the BH6 is the SS bios and it says it supports up to 700 Mhz celeron. I still have the Abit BH6 with the QN bios installed running a celeron 566 overclocked to 850 with 1.85 volts, rock solid system. All you have to is go into the bios by pressing the delete key while the machine is started and changing the 66 bus speed to 100 and increasing the vcore to 1.85. Also the AGP ratio must be changed to 2/3 instead of 1/1. The other setting that says sell hi/low- 66/100 , don't seem to make any difference, I have it selected hi on my computer.

If you're interested, I want to upgrade this system and I would be willing to sell the cpu, heatsink, fan,2 sticks of 256k memory that can run at Cas 2 for $100, shipping included.

Welcome to Anandtech forums!

You can put in any 100 MHz FSB Coppermine based CPU, including 1.1 GHz Celeron. Be sure you get a Coppermine (.18u 128K cache), not a Tualatin (.13u 256K cache).

Flash the BIOS to SS for for a rev 1.0x, or SP for a 1.1 board. You will need a Slocket for that setup as well.

Assuming you have an ATA100 hard drive or better, get a controller card and move out of that ATA33 bottleneck. I added one to my BH6 and it breathed new fire in to an old but still very solid board. It was a real eye opener! Best $26 upgrade I've made yet.

I used to have a BH6 rev 1.01 board and I ended up with a slot1 P3 1000E proc in it with no problems whatsoever. It's still going, sold it to a friend of mine several months ago, and has been running the 1000E for over a year at 1120 mhz. It is using the SS bios.

Hey Everyone,
thank you for all your replies and comments. I will review them in more detail, and digest the information. In the meantime, I'm still trying to figure out the most econimical way as funds are on the low side. BTW, the board is ver 1.01 if I recall correctly. Any BIOS upgrade issues?

Where would I start to look for some of the components (parts), mentioned. I'm not sure is I can get a Cels of at least 500mhz.....without the added xpense of m/board.

..Later...and THANK YOU VERY MUCH.....
