Abit BH6 & Ram problems

I've got a PIII 450 on a Abit BH6 1.1 with the SP Bios update. I've got 3 sticks of Kingston PC133 ram. Here's my problem whenever I run it with 768MB of ram the computer always wants to crash but if I remove one stick and run 512MB it runs fine. Why is this? On the abit website it says the motherboard can handle 768MB. Any input would be a appreciated.

hmm ,I'm sure I remember they had some kind of compatibilty problems with some RAM.
I'm gonna dig around for a bit............

If your running windows 98 or ME your running into a known problem... when set up normaly the os can only address 512mb of ram, however there is a reg tweak that works around it but i dont know what it is.... someone with more knowledge please chime in now 🙂
Otherwise get Win2k its much more stable anyways

Not true, i haev only seen a couple of games that win 2k wont run/run well. One of them is Septera Core, other than that its older games that were made long before 2k was released.

heh ,if I can't play my old DOS games then it sucks for me😉.
I think you'll find some other newer games also have problems ,though I can't remember which

Seriously though I intend to go dual boot with Win2k & Win 98SE to give me the best of both worlds

lol @ your sig btw 🙂

CrackRabbit: Thanks for the this explains why my video games haven't worked since I've gone up to 768MB. Hmm...I'm not sure if I wanna go messing with it. I'll just wait to use the extra 256MB when I upgrade to either Win 2k or Win XP. 🙂

Interesting article Crack Rabbit ,thanks.

Its easy changing the vcache settings ,you've got nothing to worry about😉.
If your still uneasy about editing the system.ini then you can use Cacheman to do it ,you can't go wrong then 🙂
