Testing a client machine--c400 w/ 128M RAM...Last couple of months, started opening in the cmos screen..had to reset several times...replaced the cmos battery and reset cmos...still opens on cmos...replaced power supply w/ brand new Sparkle 300W unit. Worked for 1 week. Yesterday, won't get passed the verifying dmi pool data. Several times, didn't even get the starting beep. reset the bios again...still no beep.

Took the box home...Backed up the hd. Tried w/ known good hd...NO. Tested the ram in this machine...used good simm from this machine to client's...still no joy. Took his c400 and adapter and ran in this unit...works ok.

Replaced all components...reset the bios...now hd not recognized. replaced the ribbon cable...still not recognized...switched to 2ndary channel..recognized. Still no boot--holds on 2nd bios screen.

Any suggestions? I think I've narrowed it down to the mb, but any advice at this point would be greatly appreciated. TIA, Paul

At this point I don't see why it would hurt to reflash the bios with the newest version. If the bios is bad you used to be able to buy new ones from abit for just over 10 dollars.

Not a bad idea...BUT, you have to be able to boot before you can flash!!!

Any other ideas, Please.

You may have a bad mobo. If it's been having a similar problem from the start, and you've tested all the components, there is a problem with the abit mobo.

Also, do u have the celeron overclocked ?

DrZone--No oc on client machines. Tried the 400(66) and the user defined on the client side. Chip runs fine and tests ok on my machine at 400(66). Var built unit purchased 7/99. Seems like an odd failure at this point in time. Paul

Well my brother still runs this board without any difficulities whatsover. I would imagine the board has just gone bad, I've had boards go bad on me before and your case does seem to sound similar to a few others I've encountered. Have you tried using a controller card to see if just the IDE has gone bad on the board?
