ABIT BH6 dead?

I've had my venerable BH6 for a long, long time now. Had the good 'ol cel300a mated to it and the combo have performed flawlessly for the past 2+ years. Now, I felt like it was time to upgrade but not wanting to spend much money, I got a coppermine 633 celeron PPGA, hoping to oc it to a respectable 950. Well, I didn't even get past stage 1. Upon powering up, it boots and performs initial POST but then hangs up displaying the error message:

"CPU is unworkable or has been changed"
"Press F1 to continue, Press DEL to enter setup."

I press F1 to continue and just when it is to complete loading of WIN98, it gives me a fatal exception error...all functions are unresponsive. I've also gone into the softmenuII and messed with the user defined setting but nothing seems to help there either.
Does any1 have a clue to what's happening here. I've upgraded to the lastest bios from the Abit website. I know I have the older BH6 ver 1.0x and flashed it with the correct update (I hope!%#!).
Could some1 pls help me on this one.

remember I got same error at first.

Have got a bh6 rev1.0 + abit converter + fc-pga cel533@800.
jumpers on converter are set to 1.65V and 100Mhz bus.
in bios set cpu to user define and set to what you want to try.
The settings in the bios set the cpu, they override the convertercard settings.
I guess the convertercard settings are the initial settings before the bios changes them ?

maybe your cpu can not get to 950Mhz or the voltage is to low (1.55V ?= standard I think)
mine goes to 896@1.7V.(8x112)

You got that message at boot b/c you swapped procs without letting the mobo know!!

you crafty sob you...

just go into the bios and set the appropriate setting for your proc, and all should be well.

And yes, the BH6 does support FC-ppga procs, I've used a celey 466 and a p3 667 on slotkets in mine..

Thanks for all the replys. I just tried some of the suggestions but still no go. Could my BH6 just be on the fritz...dead or dying. Maybe the time has come to finally replace it.

do you have the right voltage set on the slotket and in the bios? cBo = 1.5v cCo= 1.7v (more?)

It sounds like you might be trying to boot at 9.5 x 100fsb, without the voltage increase many celerons require . "CPU is unworkable or has been changed" signifies that the either the voltage, multiplier or fsb is not at its default position for the processor you have installed.

have you tried 9.5 x 66 at default voltage (either 1.5 or 1.7)?
