I use to know this stuff but haven't mess with my old computer in a while.

Can the Abit BH6 which is a 1st gen BX motherboard handle a AGP 2x vid card. I know it won't do a 4x-only card due to voltage diffferences. Or am I confused with my logic? Is it more like the new gen MB are not compatible with old AGP vid cards? I can't remember.

Anyway i trying to use my old computer for a HomeTheater PC.

If I can use a AGP 2x card, which is recommended for this purpose using Powerstrip, Radeon or Geforce?

I am running a TNT2 card now and cannot get satifactory interlaced modes, but progressive modes are fine.

The vast majority of cards are "universal", meaning they're backward compatible to 2x mainboards like yours. The only thing you need to keep an eye on is power consumption - older boards can't feed the newer high end cards.

HOWEVER: If your problem is in the area of 2D resolutions being available or not, a new card isn't necessarily going to help you. Potentially, even the oldest crap VGA chips are programmable enough to produce any weird resolution you want them to - it's up to the driver to do it though. (Ad: In Linux/XFree, you can make your own ... my 2nd monitor currently runs 768x576 at 100 Hz interlaced, for perfect fullscreen PAL TV :))

I think you have a few things mixed up. The BH6 is a 1x and 2x compatible board. It does use the older AGP 1.0 standard, vice AGP 2.0 and/or AGP Pro, but other than that, it should run in 2x AGP just fine. Most of the cards out today are still backward compatible to the AGP 1.0.
