Abit be6 II rev 2 Slot 1 to ?

I have a be6 II rev2.2 running a PIII 500 and I have update the bios to take a 1ghz PIII. My question is should I get a slot 1 1ghz at $210 or do a slocket PIII ... will it work in my Abit MB. Do I need to stay 100 mHZ sys bus or can I go to 133 ... as the chips are more available in the 133 version.
Any suggestions on this upgrade path would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

You can run the 1ghz/133 chip at 133fsb but make sure that the pci divider is 1/4 and since agp can't be changed, keep it at 2/3. I'm running a 700/100 chip at 933/133 and having no problems even with the retail fan. Just make sure you have good quality ram rated at 133. Mine are crucial pc133 cas 2. Just so you know, I have the same mobo and it's been running super stable at these overclocked settings. I'm not using any type of special cooling. I am running many loops of 3dmark 2001 without a glitch so I'm sure you'll be ok.

good god! a p3 slot 1 for $210!! get the fcpga version!! itll save you like almost $70!! and unless you're into overclocking, get the 1000/133mhz fsb version. you should o/c w/ that board tho.. fun stuff 😀

I have two BE6-2 MBs and I am currently running P3 700Mhz FCPGA with Iwill Slocket II adapters. Originally I was using a generic slocket from that I bought at a computer show, and it took me a while to realize that it was causing me some random lock-up problems. I changed to the Iwill Slocket II's and my system have been ROCK solid ever since.

Hope that helps.

What video card do you have?

Like deathkoba said, you would need to set the AGP divider at 2/3. This will o/c the AGP bus from 66Mhz to 89Mhz so you need to make sure your video card can handle that. You could play around with setting the AGP divider to 1/1 and set the FSB to around 90, or even 100, to test your vid card at these settings, before buying a 133Mhz FSB CPU.

OEM has a great thing for P3 100FSB right now... pricewatch has 4 people selling the 1.1 Gig P3 (100FSB) for cheap. It was only released as OEM, and it's the new one, not the old 1.13 that crapped out all over the place. You can pick up an OEM for about $140 plus shipping. slap a slotket and a heatsink/thermal compound on it and you're good to go. I was amazed to find it for so cheap... not many of us with the 440BX anymore I guess.
