ABit BE6-2 to ABit SA6R or ASUS CUSL2-C, a good idea?

I would have to get a new modem (I got ISA) and a new cooler (I have Alpha PEP66 SlotKET version...), I was thinking a Golden Orb? This seems to be a good choice for a few reasons. 1. Stability. 2. AGP 4x? 3. New chipset is very fast.
Anybody else got any more reasons? I think it would be a nice upgrade, but if you have any reasoning, please tell me! Also, SA6R or CUSL2-C? They are both very nice, but I think the CUSL2 is probably more stable (while costing less $$, but I really love ABit and support them).

Also, for a new cooler would a Golden Orb be a good idea? Or a Silver Orb? Thanks!
Also, could someone tell me where I can find the CHEAPEST Hardware PCI 56k modem?

Thanks in advance for your time and conern!

EDIT: A few thoughts just popped into my mind. Does this motherboard have dividers? I.E.-Could I run my memory at 100, my AGP at 66, and my CPU at 133+? I have a trashy 667 EB I got from my dad for free (hey it was better than my Celeron 1 366@550..), and I think it would be neat if 815E (EP?) would allow me to overclock it past 667. Please give me some info! Another question, what the HECK is a CNR slot? I know what it is, but NOTHINg supports it, so why would anybody care? Please inform me!

EDIT 2: More thoughts 🙂 What about an ABit SH6? I could keep my SlotKET !!! and my PEP66, and I would only have to replace my modem. The only problem I see is, it has two ATA/100 ports, but none for CDRom? I've got 2 75GXP's at ATA100, a 10GB ATA66, and a Creative 52x/Yamaha 8x8x24x. Is there anyway by using my Hot Rod 100 Pro, that I could make this work?
Thanks again!

Have a look at the Abit SA6R if you are really set on buying Abit. I would personally recommend the CUSL2-C. I am very happy with my CUSL2. Stable, performs well. You have to remember that i815E performance is only marginally faster than the BX, if at all.

Yes, it is possible to run the FSB at 133, RAM at 100 and AGP at 66.

A CNR (Communications Network Riser) slot is a new AMR slot. In addition to support for audio and modems, CNR add LAN support. The i815E has an integrated Intel 10/100 LAN on board, but you need a CNR to access it.

Thanks for the info man!

I love ABit, but I think now ASUS deserve's my buy, because I've heard nothing but good things about this board! Now, the difference between the CUSL2 and CUSL2-C is that the C doesn't have onboard, and its a 815EP, correct? I think for the extra money it's probably worth it...

The CUSL2-C is based on the i815EP chipset and has no onboard video. It is significantly cheaper than the CUSL2.

I want to upgrade one of my machines, the one its a BE6-II with cel633 @ 960 with a golden orb.
I tested CUSL2 and really didnt liked to OC... my cel633 wouldnt post with 100fsb (950mhz) and the golden orb just doesnt fit.... 🙁( This cpu goes 950 in BH6 1.02 and BH6 1.1 but not on the CUSL2. I'm hoping to get my hands on a SA6R to try it.

SiliconVandal - do you want the awful truth?

the only reason to upgrade your machine from the BE6 II to an 815E board is for the fun of it. yes the 815E offers some features that the BX ain't got, but performance isn't necessarily one of them. if you have good/tolerant components, the BX is as happy at 133 and up as most 815 based boards. i would try and bite the bullet and hold on for a while, but then again how fun is that?

I agree with Plester. If you were building a system, I would recommend the CUSL2. I have one. I am enjoying it, but if I wouldn't have been paid well for my old Abit BX6r2 + 450 celeron, I wouldn't have upgraded.

I need something! That fun you talk about drives me! HEhehe 🙂 Yes I know its not much of an upgrade, and the BE6-2 is great, but, as you said "what's the fun of that?". 🙂

SiliconVandal,

When you say the extra money is probably worth it, do you mean between Abit abd Asus, or between the CULS2 and the CULS2-C? B/c Andy Hui is right...the CUSL2-C is significantly cheaper than the original CUSL2...at least it should be. i know of one place selling the CUSL2-C in the U.S. right now, and the only reason its $10 more than the CUSL2 is due to supply and demand. once it hits many stores in the U.S. the pricw will drop to $10-$20 less than the original.

AndyHui,

I dont seemany posts on CNR or AMR interfaces in the forums...even when i run a search i only come up with a handful of results that dont tell me much of what i want to know. do you have any info on where i can get ahold of a CNR. i also have a CUSL2 and would like to make use of the CNR slot on the board. thanks...

Sunny129: since I am not from the US, I can't really help you as to where to get a CNR riser.

I do know that ASUS has recently offered a line of CNR products designed expressly for the CUSL2 and CUSL2-C.
