Abit BE6-2 ATA66 Controller and Win2k issues? I need answer fast!!!

Hey guys. I usually deal with Intel, Asus, MSI boards. I'm fairly new to the Abit scene. I remeber I use to have issues dealing the the Highpoint controller on the BE6-2 and Win2K. This was about a couple months ago. Now i'm dealing wiht the same board and I need to install Win2k with a drive on the Highpoint controller. Are the drivers now much better than before and I can install Win2k fine? Or is it still crappy and i'm screwed? Thanks 🙂.

I had Win2k installed using the Highpoint controller and everything was working fine, that is untill I installed SP1. After that, I would get BSOD's for no reason, randomly, and often. 🙁

I had to format and and no longer use the Highpoint ATA-66. Everything has been rock solid since 🙂

Good luck.

Edit: This was on a BE6-II.

Put the highpoint drivers on a floppy before you start installing 2000, it will only ask ONCE for them during the install and if you don't have it right then, you'll have to format and start again

I know what Ii'm doing dude. I'm king of win2k 😀.

FVCK!!! Damn Abit, it just hangs at the Now startin Windows 2000 Professional at the DOS Setup part. Fvck it. I'll put it in the normal IDE controller. Works fine.

I had a BE6 (rev 1) witht he hpt366 controller on it running win2k w/sp1 no problems at all

it was witht he highpoint 1.25 bois (included with most mobo bios updates) and 1.25 drivers

just put the drivers on a disk and hit f6 when it asks

note: i tried the 1.28 drivers, and it messed everything up BIGTIME!, stick to 1.25, they are non beta drivers.

Guys, I know about F6 blah blah blah. But i've always had trouble installing Win2k on this board with the HDD on the ATA66 controller. It would hang right before where you get to choose to install/repair ETC. Forget it, works fine on the normal IDE controller.
