I recently put together a new system, consisting of:

AMD Athlon 64 3200+ (socket 939)
Abit AX8 Mobo
1GB Corsair PC3200 RAM
Chaintech Geforce 6600GT PCI-X card
WD Raptor 74GB SATA drive
Plextor Dual-Layer DVD Writer
Lite-On DVD-ROM Drive

I first had a 350W Power Supply (that came with the case) plugged in; everything worked fine, except I noticed that my SB (Southbridge) voltage was at 2.24/2.25 volts; the Low Limit for the SB Voltage on that mobo is 2.25v, so I was getting constant beeps from the Mobo. Even though I had set the SB Voltage to 2.50v, it was still working on 2.24/2.25v.

I then purchased a 500W Power Supply (this one: http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDesc.asp?description=17-162-010&depa=0) -- plugged it in, works good too, however, now the SB Voltage is working at 2.19/2.20v, which means the machine is still constantly beeping. I obviously have disabled the beep for the SB Voltage Low/High Limit. I tried manually setting the SB Voltage to 2.50/2.55v but when I save changes in the BIOS and it restarts, it still registers it at 2.20v.

Would anyone know why the SB voltage is so low? Someone said to get a better "brand name" 400-500W PSU, but I would think that the wattage is the main importance, right?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Not really. I would pick a 300~350W PSU from a reputable company over a generic 500W one.

Several people in this forum (donnelly, SkaarjMaster, Jackil, scsi stud and me) are reporting that the reading of SB voltage is low but the sytem is running fine (except SkaarjMaster), with various PSUs. A reasonable conclusion would be that the problem is not PSU but the sensor of the motherboard and it may (or may not) be fixed by a new BIOS. As for me, I don't care unless a problem apparantly related to low SB voltage occurs.
