ABIT AX8 motherboard up on ABIT's site

There's a new board up on ABIT's site, the AX8.

"VIA K8T890 Based AMD Athlon 64/FX Main board, PCI-Express, SATA RAID, GbE, IEEE1394, ABIT uGuru? Technology".

No AGP slot though...

I'd like to see a skt754 version so people wanting to step up to A64 can add a 6600GT and have a very nice gaming rig for less money.

Better yet, I'd like to see 1.8 and 2.0GHz skt939 A64 🙂

That would work too  While xbit seems to believe that is very possible, perhaps AMD's actual quote ?At AMD, we do not give out details of unannounced product specs or launch dates as a rule. But you can certainly expect a wider range of AMD processors for the 939-pin socket in the not-too-distant future,? is referring to sempron for skt939? Not a bfd for the gamer since Sempron for 754 has proved very fast, but 64bit will be nice to have if FarCry, UT2K4 and other rumored 64bit game versions hit the shelves.

Some article mentioned the S939 Semprons would have 64-bit extensions. Makes sense, some day all processors from AMD will have them. The Sempron would just be just a little slower (less cache) processor.

About this motherboard, this is from ABIT's Marketing:

"At this point I would say the ETA is around mid towards end of October."

So those Inquirer reports about no PCIe for A64 this year were FALSE!

i'm thinking that's sarcasm 😉 agp will be here for some time yet.

Too bad it is a Via chipset tho 🙁

yes, i agree... and it's too bad bit has seemed to be going the way of via of late as they've had no nforce 3 offerings of any kind that i recall.

I thought we werent going to PCI-Express for AMD this year. If only 939 prices go down... Did anyone notice the 2Ghz HyperTransport 😉

curious to know,
which is the web dealer that has the fastest shipping record with Abit mobos. I really want that new ax8 with the k8t890. Got all my gear stolen, PCs and laptop... i need a new set of mobos to rebuild farm action! I figured i'd build 5 in one shot... on an AMD/PCIe platform

Excaliberpc.com had the NF7-S2 first, I believe. Also check malabs.com, they're a distributor.

Although Abit has had this board posted on their site for some time now, I haven't been able to find it at any online retailer yet. I'm anxious to get my hands on one of these as well so I can ditch my aging Pentium and build my first AMD system with PCI express. 😉
