Abit AW9D-Max

Any users of this board out there that can give some insight into their experiences with it? I've read some reviews and would like some personal views.

I'd be using an e6600 and would like it if I could hit 400FSB (tops). I've read that can be a problem though.

Also, how was installation?

Most importantly, how about the stability?

Head over to abit's forums, many people there either have the aw9max or did and are trading up to the in932xmax.

if you have the right CPU (read 9 multi or more if overclocking) 975X is still probably the best performing chipset.
Unless of course you need to SLI 8800s

it's possible this board could do SLI in the future. After all, it does have 2 PCI Express x16 slots and comes with an SLI bridge.

it can do SLI now with the hacked drivers.
te hacked drivers don't support 8800s though.

I got my mobo today and put the computer together. So far I've had no problems. Haven't tried overclocking yet though.

you can do a crippled SLI since the second slot is 4x. it DOES not have 2 x 16. check the manual.

as for my impression of this board...

i had a love/hate relationship with this board but i finally got rid of it.

it was fast, i'll give you that and the ability to change voltages in windows w/o having to constantly reboot was VERY nice.

however, the board had issues with stability above 400 mhz FSB (refused to do orthos blend test at or above 400 mhz). if you want to read about the quirks of this board, check out this thread...

No, it's 2x8 - it's a 975 chipset not 965.

No, it's 2x8 - it's a 975 chipset not 965.

My bad. you're right.

965 = 1 16x and 1 4x
975 = 2 16x but runs 8x in xfire/sli?

I recently purchased an AW9D (not the MAX version). Currently running it at 337 FSB with no serious problems. It did seem to lose it's overclock settings once for no apparent reason. Also uGuru, which otherwise is pretty awesome, once lost all of it's settings as well (not the FSB and voltages, but the temperature thresholds and such). No clue why. I'm still generally happy with it though. The AudioMAX sound card has solved the feedback noise problem I had with my new USB mouse on my previous Abit motherboard (a GD8). I like the 2 digit code display on the board, something I haven't had before.
