hi my system comprises of the following
hyper type r psu 580w (modular)
abit aw9d-max socket 775 motherboard
intel core 2 duo e6600 @2997ghz revision b2
bfg geforce 8800gtx oc running stock
2 samsung spinpoints 250gb in raid 0
geil pc2-6400 ultra low latency memory @416.0mhz per channel fsb:Dram 4;5 & 5`5`5`15`21
artic freezer 7 hsf
antec 900 ultimate gaming case plus extra 120mm fan so well ventilated
vista x32 ultimate edition

1 st post to this forum i hope i can get some help
my problem is since ive had this motherboard upgrading from my dfi infinity 775 board
at regular intervals i get the noise the same as when i first boot the comp up ( a whirring noise follwed by a little beep )
which would be fine if the bios was first starting up but its not` its doing it when its in windows and its not just the noise i get a freeze in the comp when its happening for about 2-3 secs
i am on the latest bios update from abit and all my drivers along with my operating envoiroment is up to date
i dont think it freezes during gameplay but i still get the noise !!
i know most people would just say get an rma and send it back
its not that simple because i bought the motherboard from www.overclockers.co.uk
and i had to do a similar exercise for my friend i fitted the 775 protector as per rma terms
but they still sent the motherboard back and came up with some rubbish that the motherboard had been modified ?!?!? and charged a further £27
and ive read in the forums about thousands of other people having same treatment
and if i could`nt get a resolution on that which was failing to boot then i dont see much chance with this problem that could be specific to my set up .
i dont buy from them anymore ! does any1 know if abit will deal with me direct ?
anyway i have side tracked a bit here has anyone had a similar problem with similar system as thsi is driving me potty i bought this set up expensive 1 at that because i expect quality products and imho expensive products can be as poorly manufactured as the crap that comes from taiwan
any help would be gladly appreciated as my only other step is to buy another motherboard which im 99% confident is the problem 1% chance it may be the psu as the geforce is greedy ?
thanx for looking
paul

Yes, abit UK cs is very good.
However, before RMA you should try & track down the problem further.
"At regular intervals" - how regular, period involved.
Normally if you are getting a beep from an abit it will mean that either a temp, voltage or fan rpm is outwith the set warning levels. If you can trace the whir it could be useful too - as you know the board itself is fully passive so it isn't a chipset fan.
The best place to look for help is probably the abit-USA forums as that's where you'll find the highest concentration of AW9D users.

it does it all the time lately at first when i first load up windows its fine but after about 1 hr it starts and the noise is the identical 1 that happens when you first power up i.e the bios kicking in
i have noticed if i leave it idle for about 15 -30 mins then go to windows explorer and try to navigate and hard disc or dvd rom drives i will get the noise followed by a wait time before my command is completed

well, the BIOS itself makes no noise so the only things that whir are fans (CPU, gfx, case, PSU) & drives (HDD, OD).
If you haven't already I really think that you should start a thread on the abit forums but giving a full hardware spec. & also if you can what codes are shown on the POST reporter.
