Abit AV8 bios gone bad?

I've got an Abit AV8 motherboard, Athlon 64 3500, 1GB PC2700 RAM. Been running for over a year now. When I tried to power it up yesterday, nothing would happen. A few hours later, I was able to turn it on, but it would halt at post code 9.0., which according to the manual means "Complete uGuru initial process, award bios taking over booting job". It is accompanied by alternating high/low beeps.

What could be wrong? Sounds like maybe my BIOS chip is fried? How can I go about replacing it, if so?

I'm having problems with the new AV8 bios.

When I updated to v27, Windows wouldn;t load got a "Missing NTLDR" message

Had to flash it back to v26 to get it to work.

any ideas?
