Ok I built a rig for my mom's bf a little while ago and have been having nothing but problems with it so far. I'm pretty sure it's down to just a bad board, but who knows.
Symptoms...
1) biggest problem first. if i set anything away from fail-safe default settings in the bios, this thing hangs. it will go to the "do you want to save and exit" screen but when it tries to reboot it just gets stuck. this happens with ANY settings change, even something as insignificant as a clock (time clock, not cpu clock) change in the bios.
2) this thing is downright stubborn about having sata drives connected to it. it just hates having them present with anything else there as well. have to boot to windows on the sata and then connect ide drives afterwards. EVERY time.
3) Sound comes and goes. Meh. Getting really sure this thing is toasted.
Things we've tried....
1) Swapped the CMOS battery with a known good one. Flashed the bios to the most recent. Still no luck.
2) SATA issue should be fixed with the "boot from SCSI" enabled and in the boot queue. However this isn't an option? Or when I enable Onboard SATA as priority boot device i've obviously changed a bios setting so problem #1 takes over.
3) No clue. Just appears to me that the board is trash at this point.
Suggestions? Comments?
